Toriimoto Artist in Residence [T-702]

”Toriimoto” was one of the stations (called in Japanese “Yado”) along Nakasendo Road. The road itself had 69 stations between the two termination points of Edo(modern-day Tokyo) and Kyoto. These stations consisted of porter stations and horse stables, as well as lodging, food and other places a traveller might visit. Toriimoto was located seventh from Kyoto, and Sixty-third from Edo
.

We are looking for financial support, event ideas, volunteers and any suggestion in helping us to achieve our goal.
Please E-mail us.

The location of the house is in Kyuutori (an area within Toriimoto) on the historical Nakasendo Road. It is located alongside the mountain, 5 houses away from the famous medicine manufacturer “Akadama Sinkyogan” towards the Toriimoto Station. There is a main house four meters away from an old concrete fence. There is an oak tree whose branches stretch out to Nakasendo Road. Approximately, the house is 8meter wide and 18meter long. We are looking forward to host events at the backyard of the house.

I've been attracted by the town view of Toriimoto since I was child. Toriimoto is my father's hometown. Whenever I visit there, I remember my father's joyful face of being back at home. I haven’t had a chance to live at Toriimoto.

I hope everybody in Toriimoto will understand the purpose of this project.
