英単語【ビジネス法務】 act of God 【意味】 天災，不可抗力，自然災害 ＊通例、これが発生した場合契約上の義務が免責される。“act of nature”ともいう。なお、わが国では、「天災」は、(文字どおり)“natural disaster”と表記している。 【用例】 ▷ They regard storms as an act of God. →彼らは、嵐を天災(不可抗力)と考えている。 ▷ Acts of God, such as lightning strikes, are traditionally excluded from insurance policies. →例えば落雷のような天災(不可抗力)は伝統的に保険契約から除外されている。 ▷ The Constructor shall not be held responsible for delays in construction arising from causes beyond its control and without its fault, including, but not limited to, acts of God, civil commotion, strikes, labor disputes, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tidal waves, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and epidemics. →請負業者は、天災、内乱、ストライキ、労働争議、火災、ハリケーン、竜巻、洪水、津波、地震、噴火、伝染病を含む（ただしこれらに限定されない。）、制御不能でかつその責めのない原因により生じる建設の遅延に対して責任を負わないものとする(契約文例)。
